Privacy Policy

Channel Analytics ("the app") is a private tool used by its operator to analyse YouTube channels that the operator owns. It is not offered to the public. This policy explains what the app accesses when a channel owner authorizes it, and how that data is handled.

Data the app accesses

When a channel owner signs in with Google and grants access, the app requests these read-only permissions:

• youtube.readonly: channel details, playlists, video details and public comments.
• yt-analytics.readonly: YouTube Analytics reports, such as views, watch time, audience retention, traffic sources, and aggregated audience age, gender, country and device.
• yt-analytics-monetary.readonly: revenue reports for the channel.

Audience data from YouTube Analytics is aggregated by YouTube. The app does not receive the identity of individual viewers. Public comments are stored with the commenter's public display name, as shown on YouTube.

The app does not request permission to upload, edit or delete videos, post comments, or change any channel settings.

How the data is used

The data is used only to analyse the performance of the authorizing owner's own channels: comparing videos, tracking trends over time, and producing summaries for the owner. It is not used for advertising, and it is not sold, rented or shared with third parties.

To produce written summaries, video titles, descriptions and aggregated performance figures may be sent to an AI model provider (Anthropic) for processing. Viewer comments are not sent.

Storage and security

Data is stored in private storage controlled by the operator: a private GitHub repository and the operator's own computer. Access credentials (OAuth tokens) are stored encrypted as GitHub repository secrets or as local files readable only by the operator.

Retention and deletion

Data is kept for as long as the channel owner wants the analysis to continue. A channel owner can stop all access at any time by removing the app at myaccount.google.com/permissions. On request, the operator will delete the stored data for that channel.

Google API Services

The app's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Use of YouTube data is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
